We use our city's prosperity index against voting records to produce a scorecard of our councilors' performance.

Updated Scorecard Overview

As of 20 April 2026, this scorecard reflects the latest updates for the 2025–2028 term. We utilize the 8 City Builders Association Question Hubs categories and established scoring rules. Each councilor receives a score based on their votes: +2 for pro-city builder positions, -2 for anti-city builder positions, and 0 for abstentions or absences. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 per category, with the overall score being the average. Categories with no votes default to a score of 50.

Recent Vote Analysis

New Vote Incorporated (14 April 2026)

Waste Measure Vote (Policy, Planning and Development Committee):

A motion was introduced to request a staff report by July. This report aims to review and align Auckland Council procurement policies with UN Security Council Resolution 2334. Specifically, it seeks to investigate and potentially exclude businesses linked to Israeli settlements or occupation from council contracts. The pro-city builder position was AGAINST this motion. The reasoning was to avoid diverting staff time and resources from core Auckland issues, thereby protecting fiscal responsibility and existing SME contracts.

Vote Result: 14 For | 2 Against (Maurice Williamson and Ken Turner).

This vote directly impacts the SME Business and Budgeting & Finance categories.

Summary Insights as of 20 April 2026

Standout Performers

Ken Turner leads with a B grade. He consistently opposes unsustainable growth and the recent waste measure. Maurice Williamson also shows improvement by opposing the waste measure while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Biggest Impact

The waste-measure vote on 14 April significantly affected the SME Business and Budget & Finance scores for nearly all councilors. This outcome highlights a clear divide between those focused on fiscal responsibility and practical governance versus those who are not.

Lower Performers

Councilors who supported both the PC120 and the waste measure, along with those known for high spending, find themselves at the bottom of the scorecard.

Additional Observations

There have been no new Governing Body divisions since the last update. However, this committee vote was recorded and remains directly relevant to ongoing discussions about fiscal policy and urban development.
